I ain't tellin you no lie..."
The world YogaGal creates in The Hood might have been lifted directly from my recollections of high school. It's like watching the made-for-TV movie about my life, except instead of being cheesy and starring Tori Spelling, it stars Edward and Bella and their crew of misfit pals. And is awesome.
The first chapter was entered as a oneshot in the Twi High Anonymous Challenge. The Hood came in 2nd in the open voting and was 1st place in the judge's vote.
It is very apt that this fic did so well in a challenge where the story is supposed to capture the high school experience. This WAS my life in high school: laid back stoner hippies, quoting movies, bullshitting about movies, showing off useless movie trivia, and listening to good tunes. All she needs to add: mixtapes, Phish shows, and singing along to music blasting in the car. Oh, and swap The Hood for a Dunkin Donuts (the only thing open 24 hours in the suburbs).
If Edward was a white, Jewish boy with dreads, we'd be in business. And oh how I can relate to poor Bella, trying to gauge where she stands with the boy she's crushing on when he's all laid back-hippy-aloof.
I LOVE the details in this story and the playlist is WIN.
Official Description: Bella's crush on quiet Edward Cullen seems to be one sided. But when they start hanging out will things change or does it all stay in The Hood? FOR TWI-HIGH ANONYMOUS CHALLENGE
