. . . Looking back on March

March was a time of great transition. Below there is a bit of chronicling, followed by the usual fic reader reflection.

Said farewell to my GreenBlog, which houses the summaries, links, and reviews of every twific I read between July 2009 and midMarch 2010. You were a good little blog and helped me organize my fanfic intake.

Mid-March I started working on this new one, Althea Jams and Blogs. It's been a bitch trying to re-purpose really old posts, while trying to envision how to make this blog public-friendly (as opposed to my previous blog which was essentially an external representation of my fanfic experience). I have read some killer twific and I'd love for people to benefit from that experience as a full-time fic consumer :)

Althea Jams and Blogs (this blog) will be my public blog, with my recs by category, reviews of the fics that pwn me, features that spotlight fics I love, and my reflections of what I'm reading.

I started a BUNCH of great new fic during March!
The Sweater The Misapprehension of Bella Swan Hide and Drink The Hood Dark Games & Twisted Minds Emancipation Proclamation Renfield & Chiclets Intro to Swirl & Daisy

There were several sweet sweet fics that came into my life in March:


The Sweater is an AU high school fic that revolves around a secret santa exchange. Very cute and only 7 chaps long.


Intro to Swirl & Daisy, which is the epitome of sweet, socially inept Edward who meets newcomer Bella. The story explores the series of "firsts" that this couple goes through. My absolute favorite part is when Edward convinces Bella to work for him and his LotR fandom tshirt business, and they go make a pitch to his funder, his grandmother.


The Hood gets MAD love for the adorable UST between 2 high school teens who can only be described as chillingly realistic, due to the fact that Bella's might as well have been based on my high school crew and my first love with an aloof but adoring hippy stoner.

Mystery and intrigue propels 2 darker AU fics that stand out as pretty stellar:


Hide and Drink - one of my absolute new favorites. I can't wait for an update. I long to see what happens with this dark and tortured Edward who kidnaps and essentially tortures Bella. Will their UST be resolved? Will he finally lose it completely and kill Bella? This is such an interesting fic as Bella must negotiate an Edward who literally snapped and went crazy that fateful first day in Biology class.


Dark Games & Twisted Minds - This is a really interesting mystery involving a James that torments Edward over the years. I didn't understand why Edward wouldn't seek help from his family, but it is becoming clear just how twisted James is, and smart Edward was to keep his family far from this little game James is playing. This is the first fic I've read where we witness the actual physical consequences of 2 vampires fighting. Prior, I've only ever seen the Cullens always escape injury.

Straight up hotness made its way into March. Did I mention the hotness?
For funny/crass/fuckhot - MoBS
For geeky/extreme/fuckhot - Renfield & Chiclets.
Hockeyward and Renward. Get on these stories, ladies.

Hockeyward is not a whore. He is smart. And endowed. Highly endowed. And Bella's got full-on snark and partial cluelessness. It is really fun to be inside her head.

Renward is a regular on the Hotness Hall of Fame for being a geek at the office and a dom in the bedroom. Katinki will occasionally placate those of us on Twitter who long for Renward by letting him out to play. But man-oh-man. I only let myself read 1 chapter a week these days. Otherwise it will go too quickly.

And finally, the controversial Emancipation Proclamation. Very interesting, a little disturbing at one point, but definitely different than I had assumed.
